    I am Patrick Tan, a management consultant, an entrepreneur and an investor, who is actively connecting with passionate individuals to discuss how we can make this world a better place to live. I am also fascinated in leadership and management philosophies, in particular Simon Sinek's concepts of "The Golden Circle"​ and "Start with Why".

     

    Apart from my professional life, I also enjoy my personal time with my PS4 and TV shows. My favorite outdoor activities are biking and hiking. SO...

    Synbioseas is developing a small-scale reactor that uses bacterial fermentation to extract chitin from shells, making the process more environmentally-friendly. We aim to distribute reactors to the processors that create shellfish waste, eliminating their need to find a disposal method and providing them with an additional revenue stream. We hope that direct access to the growing and lucrative chitin industry will cause a shift to a sustainable paradigm of shellfish by-product disposal.

    Integrated Appliance System (IAS)

    Final Year ChemE Design Project

    Sept 2013 - June 2015

    Integrated Appliances System (IAS) is a solar-powered all-in-one system incorporated closet dryer, space heater and water heater. The prototype is designed to be energy-efficient, self-sustainable and environmental-friendly. The novel invention within IAS is the dual-heating solar thermal collector, which air and water can be heated simultaneously.

     

    - Designed the flow processes of air and water in the system, making it efficient and inexpensive to household users.

    Virtual Tour Project - UC Riverside

    The goal of the project was to provide a variety of campus tours to prospective students and their families at home using their personal computers or tablets.


    Responsibilities:
    - Planned photoshoot locations and schedules.
    - Assisted inventory management and models management.
    - Executed photoshoot sessions with photographer and models.
    - Assisted as substitute model as needed.

    Design Engineering Intern

    Responsibilities:
    - Designed and improved current PCB manufacturing processes to be time-efficient, cost-effective, and more environmental friendly.
    - Researched to implement printing electronics techniques into PCB manufacturing processes.
    - Wrote business plan and marketing plan to secure sufficient funding for project investment.
    - Visited PCB manufacturing factories in Shenzhen.

    From an average high schooler in Sabah, Malaysia to a postgrad in Cambridge

    MPhil Industrial System, Manufacturing, and Management (ISMM)

    An one year master program, targeting to bridge between academia and industry, by training students to tackle real life industrial problems using academic frameworks and solutions. A series of factory visits (over 40) was conducted throughout the course, and 4 consulting projects were placed with industrial partners for a pair of students. A final dissertation is required to graduate with this course.
